Check with your physician firstBrainTap warns that the headset’s flashing lights can, in rare cases, trigger seizures or blackouts. It says to check with a physician first if you take any medication, are sensitive to light, or have a personal or family history of seizures, epilepsy or brain injury, and to stop if you notice twitching, disorientation or loss of awareness. Supervise children, and don’t use it under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

A note on the evidence

Research on PEMF, on red and near-infrared light (photobiomodulation) and on light-and-sound brainwave entrainment is still early. Most studies are small and use different devices, settings and session lengths, so results don’t automatically carry over to a home device. Treat these as tools that sit on top of sleep, exercise, nutrition and medical care, not replacements for them. How Sorrell MD weighs evidence
