Sorrell MD vs Function Health
A lab-testing membership and a physician practice answer different questions. Here is what each one does, and how they fit together.
The short answer
Function Health is a $365-a-year lab membership: 160+ tests a year across two draws, with clinician-written summaries, but no doctor visits, prescriptions or ongoing treatment. Sorrell MD is a physician practice: the same board-certified internist every month, who orders, interprets and treats. They are not either/or. The Sorrell MD Longevity Program includes a Function Health membership.
Side by side
| Function Health | Sorrell MD | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Lab-testing membership | Physician-led telemedicine practice |
| Price | $365/year (Function notes pricing may vary by state) | $250/month (Hormone & Peptide), $375/month (Longevity à la carte) or $7,500/year (Longevity Program). Labs, prescriptions and peptides are billed separately except the testing the Longevity Program includes. |
| Testing | 160+ lab tests a year: 100+ at the annual draw and 60+ at a follow-up 3–6 months later | 100–200+ biomarkers depending on program. The Longevity Program includes Function Health labs twice a year plus JONA gut microbiome, Mitome mitochondrial, biological age and Cancerguard multi-cancer tests |
| Who explains your results | Clinician review of every result and a written summary; a clinician calls about critical findings | Dr. Sorrell walks through every result with you in a dedicated visit |
| Doctor visits | Not included. Function says it is not a replacement for your doctor | Monthly telemedicine visits with the same physician, plus unlimited messaging |
| Prescriptions and treatment | Not part of the membership | Hormones, GLP-1 therapy, peptides, prescriptions and supplements, managed and adjusted by Dr. Sorrell |
| Imaging | MRI and CT available at member pricing | Calcium score, CT angiography and DEXA ordered when indicated and done locally, billed separately |
| Where testing happens | 2,000+ Quest locations or an at-home draw | A lab near you; some tests are at-home kits |
| HSA / FSA | HSA/FSA eligible | Many patients use HSA/FSA funds; superbills on request |
Which fits you
Function Health may suit you if
- You want a broad, low-cost annual snapshot of your labs
- You already have a doctor who will act on the results
- You mainly want to track trends yourself
Sorrell MD may suit you if
- You want a physician to interpret the results and act on them
- You may need treatment: hormones, GLP-1s, peptides or prescriptions
- You want the same doctor every month, not a report
Using both
Function Health data is the lab backbone of the Sorrell MD Longevity Program: members get a Function membership as part of the $7,500 annual fee, and Dr. Sorrell reviews each panel with them and adjusts the plan. If you already have Function results and choose another program, bring them to your intake; previous testing is part of the review.
Questions
Does Sorrell MD include Function Health?
Yes. The Longevity Program ($7,500/year) includes a Function Health membership with labs twice a year, alongside gut microbiome, mitochondrial, biological age and multi-cancer early detection testing.
Is Function Health enough on its own?
It can be if you already have a physician who will interpret and act on the results. Function itself says it is not a replacement for your doctor. The Function Health review covers this in more depth.
Which is cheaper?
Function Health, at $365 a year. Sorrell MD memberships start at $250 a month because they include a physician relationship, not just testing.
